Dr Nicola Peek

Dr Nicola Peek

Counselling Psychologist, NHS Wales
More Details

Dr Nicola Peek is a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist and EMDR therapist based in South-West Wales. She has worked within NHS since 2014 in a variety of settings, including Learning Disability Services, Adult Mental Health (Community and Acute) and most recently, Perinatal Mental Health Services. Nicola also has experience of working within Probation settings as well as with 3rd Sector Organisations.

Nicola is a relational practitioner, who believes that an intersectional approach should form the foundation of any therapeutic work or professional practices that she undertakes. Alongside this, Nicola has an interest in systemic, psychodynamic and feminist theory, which are often integrated within her work. Her doctoral thesis focused upon ‘wellbeing’ and ‘resilience’ and how these were constructed in different contexts (i.e. within the self, clients and the workplace).

Nicola has a specialist interest in neurodivergence, which in-part lead to her own diagnosis of ADHD in 2021. Nicola feels it is vitally important for individuals, families, medical / allied health professionals, employers and educators to have a greater base knowledge and understanding of how neurodivergence can present and be experienced, in order to reduce the stigmatisation and ableism that many neurodivergent individuals’ often face. Nicola believes that greater insights, empathy and meaningful support in these environments could help neurodivergent individuals to flourish, whether personally or professionally.
